Job Summary
Senior Electrical Engineer leads modeling, interconnection studies for both transmission and distribution systems for utility-scale renewable generation, battery storage, and conventional generation. Responsible for developing detailed models, performing power flow, short-circuit, dynamic stability, harmonic, and power quality studies, and cross-verifying results across ETAP, PSSE, PSCAD, PSLF, and TSAT. Coordinates with utilities, ISOs/RTOs, and developers to ensure compliance with U.S. interconnection requirements (FERC, NERC, IEEE, state utility standards). Prepares study reports, memoranda, and client presentations; supervises and mentors study engineers; contributes to methodology development and automation tools for U.S. T&D interconnection studies; supports research, design, and testing of software applications for modeling, control, and energy management of renewable energy systems. The role requires a strong technical background in power systems, hands-on experience with utility-scale interconnection projects across the U.S., and effective communication for diverse audiences.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering (Power Systems emphasis preferred)
- 5+ years of professional experience conducting and leading transmission and/or distribution interconnection studies for utility-scale projects
- Strong working knowledge of U.S. interconnection standards and procedures (IEEE 1547, IEEE 2800, NERC/FERC, ISO/RTO processes such as CAISO, PJM, ERCOT, MISO)
- Proficiency with simulation tools (PSSE, PSCAD, PSLF, TSAT) and scripting/automation interfaces (Python, PSS/E API, PSLF EPCL, PSCAD scripting)
- Experience modeling and controlling renewable plants, battery storage, and inverter-based resources
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects and lead cross-functional engineering teams
