Job Summary
Lead the design, development, and implementation of complex electrical and control systems for new projects and existing upgrades, ensuring compliance with the Canadian Electrical Code and North American standards. Develop comprehensive power distribution system designs for low and medium-voltage applications, conduct technical risk assessments, and oversee component procurement. Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to integrate electrical systems, provide mentorship to junior engineers, and maintain accurate documentation from conceptual design through commissioning. Manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment while utilizing expertise in PLC-based control, motor integration, and electromagnetic compatibility.
Required Qualifications
- Proficiency in the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC) and associated Canadian standards
- Expert-level proficiency in power distribution systems design, including single-line diagrams, panelboard schedules, and conduit/cable sizing
- Expert in system-level design for electrical and control systems, including PLC-based control, motor control, and sensor integration
- Strong working knowledge of technical risk assessment methodologies and tools
- Demonstrated experience with electrical safety standards and best practices
- Solid understanding of electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) principles and design considerations
- Proficiency with electrical design software (e.g., AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN, ETAP)
- Experience with control panel design and layout
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with diverse teams and stakeholders
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university
- Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in electrical engineering roles, with a focus on design and system integration
Desired Qualifications
- Working knowledge of North American electrical codes and standards (e.g., NFPA 70/National Electrical Code, UL standards)
- Experience with medium voltage (MV) design and installation
- Functional Safety Certification (e.g., TUV FSE, CFSE)
- Prior experience in the amusement rides industry or other highly regulated industries (e.g., automotive, aerospace, heavy machinery)
- Experience with industrial network protocols (e.g., EtherNet/IP, Profinet, Modbus TCP)
- P.Eng designation in Canada or eligibility for P.Eng
