Job Summary
Lead design and coordination of electrical systems for new construction, renovation, and tenant improvement projects, developing construction documents for power distribution, lighting, fire alarm, telecommunications, grounding, and low-voltage systems. Perform engineering calculations, coordinate designs with multidisciplinary teams, conduct site investigations, and review RFIs and shop drawings during construction. Provide technical guidance to junior staff, participate in project planning and client meetings, and apply sustainable design principles while adhering to workplace safety standards. Requires EIT certification and 5+ years of experience; salary range $100,800-$147,000. Based in Dallas or Austin, TX.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or a related discipline
- 5+ years of relevant electrical engineering experience designing building systems
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification required
- Experience designing power distribution, lighting, fire alarm, emergency power, and low-voltage systems for commercial or institutional facilities
- Knowledge of applicable building codes, National Electrical Code (NEC), energy codes, and industry standards
- Experience using Revit and AutoCAD for building systems design
- Strong understanding of multidisciplinary project coordination and building design processes
- Excellent communication, technical writing, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to manage multiple assignments and priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills
- Proven commitment to workplace safety, quality, and client service
Desired Qualifications
- Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred or ability to obtain within a reasonable timeframe
- Experience with higher education projects
- Experience with higher education facilities, including academic buildings, residence halls, laboratories, student centers, and campus infrastructure
- Experience in healthcare, science & technology, civic, or federal building projects
- Familiarity with electrical system studies, including short-circuit, coordination, and arc flash analyses
- LEED Accredited Professional (LEED AP) or other sustainability credential
- Experience mentoring junior staff and coordinating project teams
- Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
