Job Summary
Design complete electrical and controls systems for automated equipment, developing schematics, control panel layouts, and power distribution designs using SolidWorks Electrical. Specify components including motors, drives, and robotics, then integrate third-party systems utilizing industrial protocols like EtherNet/IP and PROFINET. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve technical challenges, validate designs for safety compliance, and manage procurement through bill of materials generation. Support installation, startup, site verification, and troubleshooting while maintaining project documentation. Lead technical projects from concept to deployment, driving continuous improvement in controls architecture and automation technology.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience)
- 5+ years of experience designing electrical and controls systems for industrial automation environments
- Strong knowledge of electrical engineering fundamentals, including power distribution, motor controls, and industrial safety
- Heavy experience with electrical and pneumatic schematic development
- Background working with servo systems, machine vision, robotics, conveyors, and automated machinery
- 3+ years of experience designing and implementing industrial machine networks (EtherNet/IP, PROFINET, EtherCAT, etc.)
- 3+ years of project management experience leading technical projects from concept to deployment
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting abilities with a passion for solving complex automation challenges
- This is an onsite role in our Mt Juliet facility
Desired Qualifications
- Experience with industrial robotics platforms including KUKA, FANUC, ABB, Yaskawa, or similar
- Working knowledge of machine safety standards, including ISO, RIA 15.06, OSHA, and related regulations
- Certifications such as NFPA 79, UL 508A, ISO 13849, or IEC 62061
- Experience building, testing, and commissioning electrical control systems
- Familiarity with industrial cybersecurity principles and secure machine communications
- Experience using version control platforms such as Git
- Proficiency with project management tools (Asana, MS Project, or similar)
- Strong technical documentation and report-writing skills
- Experience with SolidWorks Electrical or equivalent electrical CAD software
- Experience with Visual Components or similar digital twin and offline programming tools
