Job Summary
Senior EH&S Hazardous Waste Technician will be responsible for collecting and safely/legally handling hazardous waste and managing biomedical waste at Vaxcyte’s headquarters and local offsite labs. The role includes day-to-day compliance tasks with opportunities to contribute to broader EHS initiatives. The ideal candidate communicates well with cross-functional teams, works with minimal supervision, and is dedicated to organizational objectives. Essential duties include managing all hazardous waste compliance (inspections, labeling, waste profiles, pickups, lab packs, recordkeeping), coordinating waste profiling/testing, selecting and using appropriate PPE, advising personnel on regulatory disposal requirements, biomedical waste program management, escorting EHS vendors, acting as part of the Emergency Response Team for incident investigations, reviewing SDS databases and site chemical inventories, supporting data gathering for EHS metrics, and preparing waste for transport to onsite and offsite facilities. On-site work arrangement is 5 days per week in San Carlos, CA, with competitive compensation and benefits.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma with a minimum of 5 years hazardous waste management and general knowledge of EHS programs required
- Ability to use Microsoft programs, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and willing and able to learn new software for EHS Management
- May require after-hours support and limited spill clean-up and may require on-call coverage
- Ability to move full 55-gal drums with manual drum dolly
- Ability to obtain medical clearance and wear a respirator
- Valid CA driver’s license with clean motor vehicle record and access to personal vehicle for travel to offsite facilities
