Job Summary
Senior Education Coordinator will collaborate with the Department of Education (DOE) and the DYFJ Detention Unit to improve school attendance and student engagement for youth in secure and non-secure detention settings. Responsibilities include providing daily targeted coaching to youth, supporting learning in classrooms and facilities, tracking attendance and engagement data, coordinating with DYFJ Programs and Group Services to implement tutoring, college access, and workforce development initiatives, and participating in Family Days and Family Team Conferences to share academic updates. The role requires reporting to Facility and division leadership on educational progress, and willingness to work within ACS-operated detention facilities to implement education programming and engage youth during non-school days. Must meet listed education/experience requirements and be able to apply to NYC job postings as indicated.
Required Qualifications
- baccalaureate degree or higher in related field
- two years of experience in community work or related activities or six years with high school education
- equivalent experience accepted
- familiarity with DOE/DYFJ collaboration and detention settings may be implied by role
