Job Summary
Senior editor and fundraising strategist to oversee all editorial elements of the US supporter program during a 6-month maternity leave. Responsibilities include writing compelling fundraising copy across digital channels, overseeing the US email fundraising program, commissioning and editing fundraising copy from Guardian reporters and editors, reviewing marketing copy to ensure alignment with the Guardian’s voice, and conceiving/measuring the year-end fundraising campaign. The role requires strong editing and writing skills, experience with cross-platform digital fundraising and testing, collaboration across multiple teams and departments (US commercial reader revenue, UK global reader revenue, US editorial), and the ability to translate data into strategy. The candidate should be able to work as part of a highly collaborative newsroom, manage campaigns, identify opportunities to boost reader support, and operate with a clear understanding of journalism business models, growth strategy, and audience engagement. Six-month assignment with an annualized salary range of $140,000–$160,000, prorated for the duration; location: New York, NY, with consideration for remote/hybrid work.
Required Qualifications
- 8+ years experience in editorial capacity or digital fundraising or mission-driven digital campaigning/marketing
- exceptional writing and editing skills
- experience with cross-platform digital fundraising and testing methods
- experience working with senior stakeholders across an organization
- creative thinker with data-informed decision-making
- familiarity with Guardian brand and mission
- ability to hit deadlines and collaborate across geographies and departments
