Job Summary
Coordinate editorial and production aspects of assigned book projects, including substantive editing of manuscripts, managing workflows and schedules, and overseeing freelance copyeditors and proofreaders. Conduct copyedits for style, grammar, and accuracy; code files for typesetting; and verify scientific nomenclature and cited references. Prepare projects for digital workflow systems, upload materials, and transmit work to Prepress for final design and printing. Serve as liaison with authors and volume editors to incorporate changes and ensure adherence to APA style. Provide input on new product development, cover design, and marketing copy while monitoring industry literature and attending relevant meetings.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in English, science, or behavioral science
- at least 5 years of significant experience in medical or scientific editing
- equivalent combination of education and experience
- Demonstrated examples of significant editorial skills
- electronic publishing experience
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
- ability to creatively solve problems
- strong content development and project management skills
- Knowledge of publishing systems and emerging technologies and content delivery systems as they apply to publishing
- prior experience in STM publishing
