Job Summary

Senior Editor oversees editorial processes for patient-facing publications, continuing medical education, and consumer books, including manuscript submission, peer review and selection, and project management for all steps of print and digital production and dissemination. Provides strategy insights for current and new publications, ensures quality and integrity of editorial content, including high-level substantive and copyediting, asset management, and final suitability determinations. Ensures ongoing reviews and updates to published content across products, aligns with ACOG/AMA/Chicago style standards, and maintains high instructional quality and reader engagement. Responsibilities include content strategy and development, leading or participating in projects, coordinating reviews, managing freelancers, collaborating with marketing/product teams on launches, and performing quality control. Requires a Bachelor’s degree and at least 5 years of medical or scientific editing experience; Master’s or medical writing/editing certification preferred; salary range $75,000–$85,000 USD; hybrid position commuting to the Washington, DC office.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, communications, journalism, science, or behavioral science
  • Minimum of 5 years of significant experience in medical or scientific editing
  • Experience with project management and peer review systems helpful
  • Strong editorial and writing skills
  • Knowledge of publishing systems and emerging technologies and content management systems as they apply to publishing
