Senior Distribution Engineer

Job Summary

Perform design engineering for Leidos electric utility customers, developing work packages for overhead, underground, and make-ready projects using customer GIS and WMS systems. Manage scope, schedule, and budget while coordinating conflicting utility requirements and assessing large design packages for complex cable/conduit projects in dense urban environments. Initiate continuous improvement to workflow processes and maintain schedule adherence to advocate client priorities. This role requires an Active Professional Engineer (PE) license in Pennsylvania and 4+ years of experience in electric utility design. Candidates must be located within a commutable distance of Eastern, PA for on-site support.

Required Qualifications

  • 4+ years of prior relevant experience
  • Relevant experience working directly with an electric utility or an electric utility consulting company performing design engineering for electric distribution
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering discipline (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial) from an ABET accredited institution
  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) license
  • Licensure in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
  • Experience and demonstrated proficiency with the National Electric Safety Code (NESC)
  • Experience with structural analysis, guying calcs, cable pulling calcs, coordination of protective devices, and electric demand and fault currents calculations
  • Ability to provide your own reliable transportation
  • Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communications skills

Desired Qualifications

  • Some previous experience with Providing estimated costs, development of a BOM, calculating the CIAC
  • Design tools such as Pole Foreman, Pull Planner, and Katapult
  • Work management software and job estimating software
  • CAD or MicroStation – Performing Electrical Distribution Design
  • Experience in providing Quality Assurance (QA) and Quality Control (QC) for Design Projects
  • High level organization and project management skills
  • Ability to uptrain entry level resources and create process documents
  • Professional Engineer License (PE)
