Job Summary
Senior Director, Transactions leads and coordinates transactional activities in oncology R&D partnerships, including in-licensing, out-licensing, acquisitions/divestitures, clinical/discovery collaborations, and strategic alliances. Builds and maintains external networks with biotech companies, academia, venture capital, and other stakeholders; manages deal negotiation and closure; collaborates with cross-functional teams (deal finance, legal, commercial) to align collaborations with disease-and-science strategies; reports on activity to senior management; seeks opportunities to improve processes with emerging technologies (including AI and automation); and serves as a role model for professional excellence within AstraZeneca's Oncology R&D Strategy organization. Desired competencies include broad oncology knowledge, strong prioritization, advanced negotiation, data-driven storytelling, and effective external engagement.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field
- 5+ years in life sciences industry
- Experience in business development, licensing or commercial roles in biopharma/pharmaceuticals
- Strong oncology deal sheet with leadership across license or collaboration transactions
- Excellent negotiation and contract evaluation skills
- Ability to influence leaders and communicate across matrixed organizations
- Extensive experience engaging with external partners and senior representatives of peers, banks and VC firms
- Ability to operate in cross-functional teams and represent AZ at external partnering events
- Willingness to work in an in-person office setting (minimum 3 days/week) as indicated by role description
