Senior Director, Technical Accounting

Job Summary

Serve as Atoms' subject-matter expert on technical accounting, providing proactive guidance on complex transactions, acquisitions, new business initiatives, commercial arrangements, and other non-routine activities. Lead the research, evaluation, and documentation of accounting conclusions under U.S. GAAP, including the preparation of clear, concise, and defensible technical accounting memoranda. Partner with Controllership, Legal, Corporate Development, Strategic Finance, Tax, Treasury, business leaders, and external auditors to assess the accounting implications of strategic and operational decisions. Monitor emerging accounting guidance, evaluate its impact on the company, and lead the implementation of new accounting standards and company-wide accounting policies. Translate complex accounting matters into practical recommendations for senior leadership, while helping strengthen technical accounting capabilities across the broader organization. This role is based in New York, San Francisco, or Los Angeles with onsite, five-day workweeks.

Required Qualifications

  • CPA
  • 12+ years of experience
  • Big 4 experience
  • national office experience
  • Deep knowledge of U.S. GAAP
  • ability to independently research, evaluate, and resolve complex or judgmental accounting matters
  • Ability to understand the economics of acquisitions, investments, financings, commercial arrangements, and new business initiatives
  • ability to determine the appropriate accounting treatment
  • Strong technical writing skills
  • ability to prepare clear, concise, and defensible accounting memoranda
  • ability to explain complex conclusions to executives, operators, Legal, and external auditors
  • Comfort partnering proactively with Controllership, Finance, Tax, Legal, Corporate Development, and business teams
  • maintaining strong technical standards and independence
  • Track record monitoring emerging guidance
