Job Summary
Senior Director, Risk and Underwriting responsible for end-to-end underwriting policy and execution across card merchants, A2A clients, ISO/ISV sub-merchant populations, and high-velocity onboarding programs; ownership of portfolio risk, fraud monitoring, NACHA-compliance metrics, KYC/KYB tooling, reserve methodology, and sponsor-bank/ODFI relationships; lead integration of two risk frameworks and banking arrangements post-acquisition; partner with Compliance to align risk and regulatory requirements; drive scalable, AI/automation-driven underwriting while enabling aggressive growth safely and maintaining risk appetite; remote role with travel to financial institution partners and team sites as needed; reports to COO; direct reports include risk and underwriting leadership across card and A2A.
Required Qualifications
- Eight or more years of relevant experience in risk and underwriting within payments/fintech
- Experience owning sponsor bank or ODFI relationships as the accountable party
- Hands-on experience with fraud strategy, chargeback and reserve management, AML/KYC/KYB program governance
- Ability to communicate risk clearly to executives, bankers, and salespeople
- Experience with AI and automation-driven underwriting and scalable systems
- Deep understanding of BSA/AML, OFAC, state money transmission licensing, and network compliance
- Comfort with risk integration projects, especially post-acquisition integrations
- Credibility with auditors and network partners
- Strong leadership of senior teams and cross-functional collaboration
