Job Summary
Senior Director of Software Engineering (AI/ML) at JPMorgan Chase leads multiple technology and process implementations across departments focused on machine learning, large language models, search, and agentic systems. Drives development, deployment, and monitoring of advanced ML/AI solutions; provides strategic leadership to cross-functional teams from ideation to production; interfaces with senior leaders to align objectives; oversees model governance, data privacy, and ethical AI; builds and mentors data scientists, ML engineers, and AI researchers; emphasizes cloud-native ML/MLOps capabilities and cross-team collaboration to deliver scalable value in financial services.
Required Qualifications
- Formal training or certification on machine learning, artificial intelligence, LLM, search, and agentic systems concepts; 10+ years of applied experience
- 5+ years of experience leading technologists to manage, anticipate and solve complex technical items within the domain
- Experience developing or leading large or cross-functional teams of technologists (data scientists, ML engineers, AI researchers)
- Demonstrated experience influencing across matrixed organizations and delivering value at scale
- Experience leading complex projects spanning system design, testing, and operational stability (model development, validation, continuous improvement)
- Experience with hiring, developing, and recognizing talent in diverse and inclusive environments
- Extensive practical cloud-native experience and expertise in ML/AI platforms and MLOps
- Deep expertise in LLM architectures, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), fine-tuning, and intelligent agentic systems
- Strong background in search technologies, information retrieval, and knowledge management
- Outstanding written and verbal communication abilities, with experience delivering impactful presentations and strategic recommendations
- Publications or patents in ML/AI (preferred)
- Experience working at code level and with cloud-based ML platforms (preferred)
