Job Summary
Senior Director of Major and Individual Gifts leads a multi-channel donor fundraising strategy (including Annual Fund, Mid-Level, Major Gifts, and Planned Giving). The role oversees moves-management processes, mentors gift officers, provides executive direction for the Annual Fund, defines donor segmentation, and collaborates with Communications, church, staff, and Board to coordinate solicitation cadences and messaging. Responsibilities include cultivating a high-priority donor portfolio (including ultra-high-net-worth individuals) and driving stewardship journeys to convert prospects into long-term, invested partners. The position emphasizes building philanthropic culture, partnering across departments, maintaining donor relationships, tracking performance metrics, and contributing to overall organizational impact in San Francisco’s social justice and poverty-alleviation ecosystem.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience
- Seven to 10+ years of significant nonprofit fundraising and leadership
- Demonstrated multi-year experience managing a fundraising team
- Excellent interpersonal and communications skills (written and verbal)
- Proven experience in storytelling and conveying organizational impact
- Ability to establish priorities and execute tasks with little direct supervision
- Adaptable and flexible style while maintaining rigor
- Ability to build strong working relationships across difference—from front-line staff to Board members
- Confidentiality
- Strong writing skills for proposals, solicitation letters, and correspondence
- Adept at creating and tracking budgets; MS Office suite; Salesforce experience
- Experience with wealth screening and prospecting software
