Job Summary
Senior Director of Development serves as a strategic and operational partner to the CEO, shaping and leading a comprehensive development function. Responsible for defining and implementing development goals, building and managing donor pipelines (individual, institutional, corporate, and foundation), securing major gifts and leadership-level gifts, overseeing annual giving, sponsorships, grants, and events, and translating programs and impact into compelling cases for support. The role requires strong collaboration with the CEO, Board of Directors, volunteers, and cross-functional teams, with accountability for performance metrics, data-informed reporting, budget management, and staff development. Opportunities for growth toward executive leadership, including a potential path to Chief Development Officer, are highlighted. The position entails overseeing donor engagement, stewardship, and external visibility, while advancing the council’s mission and ensuring alignment with strategic priorities and fundraising goals.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, communications, marketing, or related field or a combination of equivalent education and directly related work experience
- Five or more years of progressive fundraising experience with a proven track record of success in individual, corporate and foundation fundraising
- Demonstrated success in securing major and leadership-level gifts ($20,000 and above)
- Proven ability to plan and execute successful fundraising campaigns and events
- Experience in youth development or membership-based organizations preferred
