Job Summary
Senior Director of Communications at KIPP Foundation leads the national earned media strategy, executive communications, issues management, and internal communications. Responsible for shaping external messaging, coordinating with the Office of the CEO, regional teams, and the Marketing and Communications group; serves as a on-the-record spokesperson, develops crisis and internal communications plans, trains leadership, and aligns national priorities with regional stories. Oversees a full communications ecosystem including earned media, executive communications, internal channels, and crisis protocols; manages one direct report and collaborates with Digital Marketing to amplify content across channels; requires strong data-driven decision making, storytelling, and change-management skills, with travel and remote-work flexibility.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 8-10 years of experience in marketing and communications
- Experience leading Media Relations in large-scale public service or networked organization preferred
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent required; Master's preferred
- Experience supporting C-Suite leaders with timely communications decisions
- Strong internal and external communications planning and execution
- Proven ability to manage regional and national communications efforts
- Spokesperson experience and media training skills
- Ability to translate complex information into clear, persuasive narratives
- Strong collaboration and relationship-building with diverse stakeholders
- Willingness to travel ~20%
- Experience in crisis communications and risk management
- Proven leadership and people-management capability
