Senior Digital Product Designer, Design Systems

Job Summary

Own and evolve the design system by managing token architecture, component libraries, and theming capabilities across mobile, tablet, and desktop platforms. Design reusable UI components, wireframe new features, and conduct user testing while partnering with engineering to set implementation standards and ensure accessibility. Spot system gaps, establish governance and documentation protocols, and educate teams on effective system usage. Spend 80% of time scaling the design system and 20% on broader product work, including journey mapping and concepting. Work within a hybrid Milpitas, CA model (three days on-site) to support foundational design impacting millions of users.

Required Qualifications

  • Deep understanding of atomic design principles
  • Expertise in design system architecture, including tokens, component libraries, reusable patterns, governance, and scalable cross-platform foundations
  • A track record of building and evolving design systems for complex digital products, with 6+ years in product design, including 2+ years focused on design systems
  • Strong interaction and visual design skills
  • Systems-thinking mindset
  • Cross-platform UX experience
  • Accessibility-first design approach
  • Ability to balance consistency with product flexibility
  • Experience partnering closely with front-end engineers
  • Strong understanding of design-to-development workflows, implementation constraints, technical tradeoffs, and design QA practices
  • Advanced Figma expertise, including libraries, variables, and design system management
  • Strong prototyping, communication, and documentation skills
  • Ability to present system decisions and influence cross-functional stakeholders
  • Bachelor's degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Interaction Design, Visual/Graphic Design, or a related field

Desired Qualifications

  • Certifications in accessibility, UX/interaction design, or design systems–related programs
