Senior Development and Property Accountant

Job Summary

Conduct full cycle real estate and project accounting for an assigned portfolio of affordable housing properties, overseeing third-party property manager reconciliations and monthly trustee activities. Review variance analysis reports, complete financial statements for internal and external stakeholders, and prepare audit packages with supporting documentation. Manage construction draws, lender requisitions, and bank reconciliations while integrating development activity into operating ledgers. Collaborate with asset management, development managers, and vendors to develop budgets, forecasts, and surplus-cash calculations. This role requires working additional hours during audit seasons and includes a hybrid schedule of two days per week in Washington, DC.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field
  • Five years of progressive experience in Accounting or Finance
  • Exceptional knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, cost control principles, and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Solid experience coordinating audit activities and managing reporting, budget development and analysis, accounts payable and receivable, general ledger, and accounting for investments
  • Strong interpersonal skills to effectively work with people at all levels across all departments
  • Strong attention to detail and analytical ability to develop and implement improvements, as needed
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to convey complex financial concepts and data

  • Three or more years of LIHTC experience is strongly preferred; candidates without specific LIHTC experience should have at least five years of related corporate, development, or property accounting experience

Desired Qualifications

  • CPA or CMA license preferred
  • A strong preference for specialized experience in real estate, multi-family development, property management, affordable housing and LIHTC
  • Proficiency with accounting software
  • Proficiency with all MS Office software including advanced Excel capabilities (i.e. formulas and functions)
