Job Summary
Own the design vision of the game day-to-day, translating high-level concepts into detailed, buildable mechanics and systems that serve core pillars and player fantasy. Lead the design team by providing clear direction, timely feedback, and consistent creative guidance across art, tech, and production to ensure alignment on design intent. Maintain design coherence as the game evolves through development, representing the vision in publisher conversations and balancing creative ambition with delivery alongside the Producer. Conduct regular hands-on playtesting with the team and respond to player feedback and data to drive meaningful iteration and improve the player experience. Identify design risks, gaps, or contradictions before they become problems, ensuring builds remain playable and demonstrably fun at every stage. Work closely with the Studio Head/Creative Director to shape design foundations and ensure quality meets the studio's target of 85%+ on Steam.
Required Qualifications
- Proven experience as a Senior Designer or equivalent on shipped games
- Strong, hands-on experience designing and owning gameplay systems, mechanics, and progression in Unreal Engine, from concept through implementation, with the ability to prototype, tune, and iterate quickly
- Direct systems design and balancing experience in genres that depend on it (deck builders, automation, survival craft, procedural), with the numerical ability to model systems in a spreadsheet as a live balancing tool
- Experience using playtesting, feedback, and data to refine features and improve outcomes
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills across design, art, engineering, and production
- A pragmatic approach, focused on what moves the game forward and creates the best player experience
- Passion for games and a drive to turn strong design into player delight
- Remote-working position
