Job Summary
Senior Designer at North Wind develops 3D CAD models and 2D drawings for mechanical components used in hypersonic programs. Creates solid models from aerodynamic and interface requirements, ensures manufacturability with fabrication teams, selects standard components, assists BOM generation, performs tolerance stacks, and supports assembly procedures, interface control documents, instrumentation layouts, mass properties, and design reviews. Leads and mentors design activities, assists in planning drawings budgets and schedules, and communicates progress to engineering leads. Requires a Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering (or related discipline) and at least 5 years in high-speed propulsion; proficiency in engineering design and analysis tools (e.g., ramjet/scramjet knowledge, CFD, thermodynamics, aerodynamics), and strong programming skills (Python, MATLAB/Simulink, Fortran, C++). Active U.S. security clearance preferred; US citizens eligible to obtain/maintain clearance.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering or related discipline
- At least 5 years of experience in high speed airbreathing propulsion or similar industry
- Strong programming skills for modeling and analysis (Python, MATLAB/Simulink, Fortran, or C++).
- Experience with design and analysis codes for engine flowpaths, cycle analysis, and aerothermal analysis.
Additional Requirements
- Active U.S. security clearance preferred; candidates must be U.S. citizens and eligible to obtain and maintain a clearance.
