Job Summary
Senior Design Reviewer (Electrical) for the NYC Department of Design and Construction, Architecture and Engineering Unit. Responsible for project scope development; existing conditions surveys and forensic analysis; review of design and construction documents prepared by consultants; preparation and review of construction documents and construction administration for in-house design projects; coordinating design reviews with architectural and engineering staff; and providing technical analysis of design quality issues. Must be thoroughly knowledgeable of design principles, industry best practices, building codes, project delivery methodologies, and latest technologies in the field; will interface with sponsors, consultants, contractors, project managers, and other technical staff. Must be authorized to work in the United States and provide required documentation; multiple civil-service criteria and licensing/education pathways apply.
Desired Qualifications
- Seven years of full-time experience as an electrician, designer, or inspector of electrical installations (light, heat, and/or power distribution, including traffic signals, fire alarm detection or communications systems)
- At least eighteen months in a managerial, administrative or supervisory capacity
- Alternate path: Five years of experience with at least 18 months in management, plus either 60 credits toward a degree in electrical engineering or electrical engineering technology, or two years of full-time training in an acceptable electrical program
- Alternate path: Completion of an apprenticeship program at least three years long, and either four years of experience as described above or two years of experience plus 60 credits or two years of education as described above
- A professional engineer (PE) license or a registered architect license issued under New York State Education Law, with at least two years of experience as described above (and at least 18 months in management)
- Education and/or experience equivalent to the described paths, with at least two years of experience as described above and at least 18 months in a managerial capacity
- Authorized to work in the United States for full-time employment
