Job Summary
Observe, interview, and research federal bills, hearings, rulemakings, and judgments impacting anti-financial crime to gather facts and file accurate, clear, concise, and timely copy. Develop sources to maintain a flow of current news, cover breaking news on short notice, and pursue leads from sources, records, and other outlets. Attend and cover conferences, develop longer analysis-driven features, and use smartphones and social media to disseminate news broadly and quickly. Collaborate with the managing editor to plan coverage, graphics, videos, and photos while managing multiple stories concurrently and filing by deadline. Pitch and file stories through interviews and investigation, utilizing strong notetaking and news writing skills within Microsoft Office and online publishing systems.
Required Qualifications
- At least five years of experience reporting for a daily or trade publication
- Ability to pitch and develop stories through interviews and investigation
- Ability to manage multiple stories concurrently and file by deadline
- Ability to juggle interviews, planning calls and other meetings
- Strong notetaking, news writing and other journalism-related skills
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office and online publishing systems
- Good verbal and organizational skills

- Potential to edit colleagues' stories if necessary
