Job Summary
Senior Database Engineer with deep PostgreSQL and AWS Aurora expertise to own reliability, performance, and scalability of production database platforms. Design highly available AWS-based architectures, lead lifecycle activities (provisioning, upgrades, migrations, backups, DR), drive performance improvements, establish operational excellence (monitoring, runbooks, incident response), enforce security standards, automate tasks via Infrastructure as Code, perform capacity planning and cost optimization, participate in on-call rotations, and collaborate with a globally distributed team in a remote UK-focused role.
Required Qualifications
- 8+ years in production database engineering/administration
- PostgreSQL
- AWS Aurora
- PgBouncer and/or RDS Proxy
- Terraform (Infrastructure as Code)
- Prometheus and Grafana
- Python scripting or similar
- Linux fundamentals relevant to database operations
- Strong written communication
- On-call rotation experience
- Ability to collaborate across time zones and a remote-first environment
