Job Summary
Senior Data Scientist to advance predictive analytics in Canadian P&C insurance. Role focuses on applying ML/AI to pricing, underwriting, and claims through production-ready models, partnering with stakeholders, and delivering interpretable insights and decision tools. The position blends advanced analytics with business impact, leveraging Python/SQL, ML platforms (Databricks/Azure), and modern NLP techniques, with a hybrid in-person/remote work arrangement across Cambridge and Toronto, Ontario. The role emphasizes model governance, stakeholder communication, and continued professional development.
Required Qualifications
- Master's or PhD in a quantitative field (Statistics, CS, Mathematics, Actuarial Science, Economics, or similar)
- 5+ years building and deploying ML/AI models in production
- Strong hands-on experience with classical ML (GLMs, LightGBM, XGBoost) and modern NLP (BERT, embeddings, LLMs, Hugging Face, RAG) for modelling structured & unstructured data (tabular, text, document and images)
- Strong Python & SQL skills and familiarity with cloud/ML platforms (Databricks, Azure)
- Experience with model governance, MLOps, performance monitoring
- Prior experience in P&C insurance—pricing, claims, underwriting, or fraud is strongly preferred
- Excellent analytical, quantitative, and critical thinking skills; strong business judgment for choosing simple yet effective models
- Outstanding communication and collaboration skills to engage stakeholders and translate technical results into business decisions
