Job Summary
Senior Data Scientist / AI Engineer at Mendo responsible for identifying, designing, and deploying AI/ML solutions within the product, leading GenAI initiatives, mentoring a junior Data Scientist, collaborating with the CTO and cross-functional teams, and delivering end-to-end AI pipelines (data prep, training/fine-tuning, evaluation, deployment) including RAG, embeddings, and semantic search to support 60 enterprise clients. Emphasis on ruthlessly prioritizing high-impact use cases, driving production-ready AI systems, maintaining model evaluation/monitoring, and balancing exploration with product delivery. Strong focus on autonomy, delivering measurable ROI, and building AI engineering best practices while shaping the company’s AI strategy.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 4-6 years of experience in ML model development and deployment
- Deep mastery of LLM fine-tuning (OpenAI, Anthropic, Llama, Mistral, etc.)
- Experience with GenAI architectures: RAG, embeddings, semantic search
- Knowledge of ML/DL frameworks: PyTorch, TensorFlow, Hugging Face Transformers, LangChain, LlamaIndex
- Experience with cloud platforms for ML (Azure ML, AWS SageMaker, or Google Vertex AI)
- Python mastery and data science libraries (scikit-learn, pandas, numpy)
- Knowledge of vector databases (Pinecone, Weaviate, Qdrant)
- Familiarity with MLOps pipelines: model versioning, A/B testing, production monitoring
- Understanding of cost, latency, and scalability challenges for AI solutions in production
- Know-how of prototyping rapidly and iterating based on user feedback
- Clear communication of complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences
- Experience in close collaboration with product and engineering teams
- Ability to mentor and train more junior profiles
