Job Summary
Senior Data Engineer to design and maintain data pipelines for Samsara's IoT data, primarily using SparkSQL and PySpark within the central data lake. Build highly reliable computed tables from diverse sources (including unstructured video/audio, sensor data, and customer metadata), ingest and transform data from IoT devices into the core data model, and enable statistical analysis, model training, and dashboarding. Collaborate closely with Data Science & Analytics, AI/ML, and other Data Engineers to ensure high-quality data and uptime for customer-facing datasets. Champion Samsara's cultural principles while contributing to scalable data platforms. This remote role is open to candidates residing in the US; relocation assistance is not provided. Minimum requirements include a BA/MS in a related field, 4+ years of data engineering experience, Spark-based platform experience, SQL/Python proficiency, and familiarity with Git/GitHub; ideal candidates also have time-series data knowledge, Databricks/Delta Lake familiarity, and public cloud experience (AWS/GCP/Azure). The base salary ranges from $119,595 to $201,000 USD annually, with RSU and performance-based components.
Required Qualifications
- BA / MS degree in Computer Science, Statistics, or a related discipline
- 4+ years experience in a data engineering-focused role
- Demonstrated experience in designing data models at scale
- Proficiency in building ETL pipelines to handle large volumes of data
- Experience with Spark-based data platforms
- Strong command of at least one data orchestration tool (e.g Airflow, Dagster, or Prefect)
- Expertise in SQL, Python, and working with REST APIs
- Familiarity with software engineering fundamentals and reading backend development code
- Experience with version control systems such as Git/GitHub
