Job Summary
Senior Data Engineer at a European Institution in Maastricht. Join a pan-European mission to design and evolve a modern data platform in a mission-critical environment. You will design scalable data pipelines (batch and streaming), support data migration initiatives, and contribute to secure, reliable data solutions. The role requires hands-on expertise with Python, SQL, PySpark, dbt, and Databricks, plus exposure to data warehouses/lakehouses (Snowflake, BigQuery, Delta Lake) and streaming technologies (Kafka). Experience with orchestration (Airflow), infrastructure as code (Terraform, Pulumi), and cloud platforms (Azure/AWS/GCP) is desirable. Strong stakeholder communication, autonomy, and a security/governance mindset are essential. On-site requirement is at least 50% with hybrid work options in Maastricht, NL.
Required Qualifications
- University degree in IT or related field
- Minimum 5 years of experience in data engineering (design/build/maintain data pipelines, batch and streaming) using Python, SQL, PySpark
- Minimum 3 years’ experience with dbt for data transformation and modelling in production
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in Databricks or equivalent distributed data processing environments
- Strong communication and proactive/autonomous work style
- Security-conscious with governance/compliance mindset
