Job Summary

Lead the design, migration, optimization, and support of data models, pipelines, and business logic across on-premises, public, private, and hybrid cloud environments. Provide advanced technical expertise to build and deploy production-grade AI capabilities and agents while mentoring other data developers. Collaborate with project managers, leadership, external vendors, and cross-functional teams to deliver scalable data solutions aligned with VCH's pillars of Indigenous Cultural Safety and equity. Manage data infrastructure from conception to completion, ensuring high-quality standards and efficient deployment within the department's analytics framework.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems Management or a data intensive related field
  • at least five (5) years' experience as a Data Engineer
  • two (2) of which will have been in a senior role
  • an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
  • Data Engineering related certification from at least one cloud service provider
  • Proven ability to develop, deploy and maintain complex multi-tiered data infrastructure, database, and data solutions with on-prem and cloud tools
  • Demonstrated hands on experience optimizing data solutions and pipelines ensuring scalability, performance, and cost effectiveness are addressed
  • Strong proficiency developing in SQL languages such as T-SQL, PL/SQL, Databricks SQL
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of Python, Scala, and Spark with an ability to write efficient and scalable code for data processing/transformation tasks
  • Strong understanding of coding best practices and modern architectural patterns (eg micro services and message-driven architectures)
  • Demonstrated strength in data modeling, ETL development, and data warehousing architecture with solid knowledge of various industry standards
  • Understanding of software data development, deployment and release processes, and automated test frameworks especially within a DevOps practice and DevOps toolset
  • Strong analytical, prioritizing, interpersonal, problem-solving, presentation, budgeting, project management (from conception to completion), & planning skills
  • Demonstrated technical leader with skills in teaching, coaching and mentoring others
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate complex ideas and processes in simple terminology to internal and external stakeholders, including all levels of management
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and maintenance of high quality standards
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, meeting deadlines under pressure, with minimal supervision and frequent interruptions
  • Ability to work effectively with multi-disciplinary teams with different lines of reporting
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position
  • Successful applicants may be required to complete a Criminal Records Review Check
  • all health care workers working in publicly-funded health care facilities are required to report their past receipt of certain vaccines or history of certain infections

Desired Qualifications

  • knowledge and experience of Databricks and/or Microsoft Foundry
  • a track record of building production-grade AI capabilities, including agents
  • You will ideally have a broad understanding of scaling and production, alongside a knowledge of best practices
