Job Summary
Senior Counsel, Intellectual Property at Global Payments leads global patent prosecution and IP-driven commercial matters. Responsibilities include developing and managing global patent prosecution strategies, overseeing U.S. and international filings, managing outside patent counsel, partnering with engineering/product teams on disclosures and strategy, drafting and negotiating IP-related agreements (technology licenses, SaaS, development and collaboration agreements, strategic partnerships), advising on IP ownership/licensing structures and risk allocation, supporting IP aspects of M&A/strategic investments, providing practical IP counseling to engineering/product/business teams, and coordinating IP enforcement with litigation counsel. The role also involves contributing to department initiatives and process improvements and requires the ability to operate autonomously in a fast-paced, global technology environment.
Required Qualifications
- J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school
- Admission to at least one U.S. state bar
- Admission to practice before the USPTO
- 8+ years of experience in patent prosecution and IP counseling
- Experience managing outside patent counsel and global IP portfolios
- Preferred technical background in software, computer science, or electrical engineering
- Experience in technology, payments, financial services, or SaaS industries
