Job Summary
Senior Corporate Counsel - Risk & Safety provides legal guidance on risk management, safety, and insurance matters for operations across the United States and Canada. Responsibilities include managing claims and litigation, supporting incident investigations, coordinating with risk and safety teams on OSHA/state inquiries, advising on drug and alcohol testing programs including DOT requirements, supporting regulatory changes and company-wide compliance, budgeting for litigation, selecting outside counsel, preparing reports for senior leadership and the Audit Committee, and delivering training to management and field personnel. Requires JD, 7+ years in practicing law, in-house or multi-state corporate experience, and willingness to travel 10-15%. This is an in-office role at the Phoenix, AZ headquarters with an attractive relocation package for out-of-state offers.
Required Qualifications
- JD; licensed to practice law and in good standing
- Minimum of seven years of experience as a practicing attorney
- 10+ years of experience performing the types of legal work identified
- Experience in large, multi-state corporate or legal environments or in-house
- Strong judgment, integrity, and collaboration skills
- Knowledge of federal, state, and local statutes and regulations applicable to publicly-traded organizations
- Excellent written and oral communication and organizational skills
- Overnight travel 10-15%
