Job Summary
Senior Corporate Counsel, Employment at Tipalti overseeing employment relations and corporate matters in Canada and the US. Provides strategic counsel to HR and senior leadership, drafts and negotiates employment contracts and settlement agreements, develops enterprise-wide employment policies and regional handbooks, manages employment-related litigation and agency proceedings, ensures compliance with employment laws across Canada and the US, guides international expansion of employment framework, delivers training on employment laws, and supports corporate governance. Requires a JD/LL.B./JD equivalent, 7+ years in private practice or in-house with focus on employment and cross-border matters, employment litigation experience, and strong communication and independent judgment. Hybrid in-office requirement with in-person presence on select days.
Required Qualifications
- Juris Doctor or Canadian LL.B./J.D. equivalent
- 7 years of experience in private practice and/or in-house at a fast-growing or publicly traded company with a primary focus on employment law and corporate matters relating to Canada and the United States
- Employment litigation experience (e.g., wrongful dismissal, human rights complaints, agency proceedings) required
- Knowledge of UK, Dutch, or Israeli employment law is a plus; willingness to learn is equally valued
- Experience with equity compensation and employee benefit plans, including Canadian and US stock option laws and equity grant structures for private companies, is a plus
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the business acumen to advise and influence C-suite and senior leadership stakeholders
- Strong ability to exercise independent judgement on sensitive, high-stakes matters, guided by a strong moral compass and high integrity
