Job Summary
Senior Controls Technician responsible for maintaining and troubleshooting manufacturing electrical and control systems down to component level, including 480V distribution, instrumentation, motor controls, VFDs, servo drives, I/O, PLCs, HMIs, and control networks. Responsibilities include troubleshooting machine breakdowns, training technicians, commissioning control devices, coordinating outside contractors, supporting plant installations/upgrades, and leading small-scope projects. Requires multi-skilled expertise in PLC, HMI, SCADA, instrumentation, and electrical safety with experience in Allen-Bradley platforms and related software; strong troubleshooting, documentation, and communication skills; adherence to safety standards (OSHA, NEC, NFPA).
Required Qualifications
- Two-year technical degree or equivalent is required for consideration
- Degree in controls/electrical/electronics preferred (including computer science courses)
- Six years of control, electrical, or electronics experience including programming, systems analysis and design, troubleshooting in industrial production environment (two years in a production environment)
- Experience with electrical systems including 480 VAC and below, PLC and HMI systems, instrumentation calibration and troubleshooting
- Ability to read wiring diagrams and schematics
- Preferred: Allen-Bradley PLC platforms (ControlLogix, SLC-500, PLC-5); Wonderware Intouch; Rockwell FTView HMI; RSLogix family; Ethernet/IP, ControlNet, DeviceNet; VFDs and servo drives
- Knowledge of Microsoft operating systems, virtual machines, servers, and network administration
- Understanding of NEC, NFPA, OSHA related to machine/electrical safety
- Strong communication skills and ability to work with operations and maintenance teams
- Experience with programming and modifying PLCs and HMI applications
- Experience coordinating electrical preventative maintenance and project implementations
