Senior Construction Inspector (Full-time)

Job Summary
Perform on-site field compliance inspections, monitor progress against specifications and codes, and conduct field checks of as-built plans. Advise contractors on discrepancies, recommend corrective actions, and execute required materials testing and surveying to verify line, grade, and dimensions. Document activities in daily diaries and reports, prepare punchlists, and oversee final inspections. Develop payment applications, track submittals, and monitor project budgets and schedules while maintaining correspondence and administrative duties. Provide daily feedback to junior inspectors and support marketing activities through shortlist interviews. Full-time variable hours (min. 30 hrs/wk); base rate $35.00 to $43.00. OSHA 10-hour or 30-hour certification required within three months.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED combined with substantial experience in engineering, architecture, or skilled construction trades; or equivalent training and experience
- OSHA 10-hour or OSHA 30-hour certification required within 3 months of hire
- Working knowledge of basic mathematics, including algebra, geometry, and trigonometry as applied to field measurements
- Construction training and technical acumen to execute assigned duties
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, email, internet navigation, and specialized equipment
- Familiarity with construction management information systems or ability to learn within one month of hire
- Knowledge of materials, methods, and tools related to projects such as highways, roads, signs, or bridges with broad operational understanding of construction activities
- Valid driver's license and safety shoes required
- Extensive daily driving is part of the role
- No overnight travel anticipated
- Applicants must be authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship
- Fingerprint-based background check, DMV record review, references, and work history verification prior to employment
Desired Qualifications
- ACI Field Testing Technician certification (ability to obtain within 3 months acceptable)
- VDOT Intermediate Work Zone certification (ability to obtain within 3 months acceptable)
- VDOT Soils and Aggregate certification (ability to obtain within 3 months acceptable)
- Additional industry certifications as required for specific project types
