Job Summary
Senior Computer Scientist (AI/ML) leading architecture, development, and testing of AI/ML methods for processing regional geophysical sensor data (seismic, acoustic, hydro-acoustic, infrasound) for U.S. Government customers. Responsibilities include designing generalized phase picker and regional associator algorithms, building automated training pipelines and model-drift monitoring, and delivering technical briefings to executives and senior clients. Requires expert Python (PyTorch, TensorFlow/Keras, Sklearn), deep neural networks for time-series data, traditional geophysical signal detection methods integrated with AI/ML, and mentoring junior engineers. Strong collaboration with vendors, subcontractors, and government stakeholders, and ability to operate in a government-contractor environment with a security clearance.
Required Qualifications
- Familiarity with Git version control software
- Proficient in signal processing of advanced waveforms (seismic, acoustic, electromagnetic, or similar)
- Expert proficiency with Python, Anaconda environments, Jupyter notebooks in production
- Subject matter expertise in acoustic theory related to seismic phase arrivals, travel times, and association
- Mastery of deep neural network architectures for complex time-series data
- Experience with traditional geophysical signal detection algorithms and integrating them with AI/ML
- Ability to architect solutions using programming, advanced mathematics, data analysis, and data visualization
- Proven ability to design and execute advanced statistical analysis on large datasets
- Excellent written and verbal communication; capable of briefing executives and clients
- Detail-oriented, autonomous technical leader capable of directing teams and meeting deadlines
- Strong interpersonal, customer engagement, and technical negotiation skills
- Experience collaborating with vendors, subcontractors, and cross-functional teams
- Familiarity with agile/scrum techniques
- Bachelor’s degree with 8+ years of relevant experience; OR Master’s with 6+; OR PhD with 3+ years of relevant experience
- U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain/maintain government clearance
- Must pass a drug test
- Security clearance requirement for employment
