Job Summary
Senior Compliance Engineer responsible for supporting regulatory, certification, and environmental compliance activities for commercial fire alarm and life safety systems. Collaborates with engineering, product management, and external certification bodies to ensure products comply with applicable codes, standards, and regulatory requirements throughout the product lifecycle. Key tasks include interpreting and applying regulatory requirements, managing RF emissions/compliance, environmental compliance (RoHS, REACH, Prop 65, PFAS), coordinating testing and certification with internal teams and external laboratories, preparing technical documentation and approval records, monitoring changes in codes and standards, and supporting audits and inspections. Requires a Bachelor’s Degree and 5+ years of relevant experience; preferred familiarity with UL/ULC/FM/EN/IEC/NFPA standards and external certification processes.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree
- 5+ years of experience in regulatory compliance, certification engineering, product safety, or another regulated engineering environment
- Working knowledge of fire and life safety system standards and certification frameworks (e.g., UL, ULC, FM, EN, IEC, NFPA)
- Familiarity with EMC / RF compliance requirements (FCC, CE, Industry Canada)
- Basic understanding of global environmental compliance requirements such as RoHS and REACH, Prop 65, and PFAS Regulations
- Ability to read, interpret, and apply complex technical standards and regulatory documentation
- Strong analytical, documentation, and technical communication skills
- Experience with commercial fire alarm or life safety systems
- Experience working with external certification bodies and test laboratories
- Exposure to international certification and approval processes
