Job Summary

Senior Communications Planner with responsibilities including managing social media platforms and the Everbridge emergency alert system, developing talking points, press releases, presentations, and reports; supporting unified messaging through Joint Information Center (JIC) and Joint Information System (JIS); training staff and partners on communication protocols and emergency alert usage; coordinating with emergency operations teams, City/State agencies, and community partners to ensure timely, accessible information; designing public information campaigns with graphics/photography to enhance outreach; participating in regional/state working groups and optimizing crisis communications across platforms.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, Public Administration, Public Policy, Political Science, Public Health, Emergency Management, Planning, or related field from an accredited college or university
  • At least 2 years of experience in either public communications, public policy and administration, public safety, emergency management, or other relevant experience; possess analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Completion of FEMA Incident Command System Training, including introductory (100, 200, 700, 800) and Public Information Officer focused courses

Desired Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, Emergency Management, Public Health, Public Administration, Political Science, or related field
  • 2+ years of experience in public communications, public policy/administration, public safety, emergency management, or related areas
  • Preferred advanced degree or certification in Communications, Public Administration, Emergency Management, Homeland Security, Public Health Preparedness, or similar field
  • Experience with FEMA Incident Command System Training (100, 200, 700, 800) and Public Information Officer focus is a plus
  • Strong analytical communication (written and oral), organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Experience managing social media, emergency alert systems, and public information campaigns
