Job Summary
Senior Coatings & Insulation Specialist responsible for the technical oversight, inspection, and program management of industrial coatings, insulation, and scaffolding systems across Covestro plant facilities. Serves as the site SME for soft craft disciplines, overseeing planning, execution, and quality assurance of coating and insulation applications, scaffold erection and inspection, and contractor management. Develops and maintains project specifications and job scopes, supports turnaround planning and execution, and ensures compliance with safety, regulatory, and AMPP/OSHA standards. Provides technical guidance and best-practice sharing across North American operations; conducts QA inspections, material evaluation, and specialized inspections (rail car, rubber lining, glass lining); mentors staff and contractors, and represents the organization in industry committees.
Required Qualifications
- 15+ years of progressive, hands-on experience in industrial coatings, insulation, and scaffolding in petrochemical or refinery environments, including formal trades training or apprenticeship completion
- AMPP (formerly NACE) Coating Inspector Program Level 2 certification
- TWIC eligibility
- Scaffold Competent Person Certification (preferred)
- AMPP Protective Coatings Specialist (PCS) Certification (preferred)
- NIA Thermal Insulation Inspector Certification (preferred)
- OSHA Construction Safety Training (preferred)
- Ability to write, review, and approve project specifications and job scopes
- Experience as a Specification Owner or technical authority for coating and insulation programs
- Experience supervising contractor and vendor qualification and oversight
- Knowledge of hazardous materials handling and asbestos inspection (certified or equivalent)
