Senior Cloud Architect (6-month Contract)

Job Summary
Develop and maintain cloud architecture strategies aligned with MEMS' organizational roadmaps using Microsoft Azure and hybrid infrastructure. Establish technical standards, governance frameworks, and reference architectures while leading the deployment and administration of cloud services. Monitor environments to improve performance, reliability, and cost efficiency, then lead troubleshooting for infrastructure incidents and service disruptions. Design and administer Microsoft Entra ID controls, implement Zero Trust security principles, and build automation frameworks using Infrastructure as Code. Support CI/CD initiatives, manage backup and disaster recovery capabilities, and oversee cloud consumption and licensing utilization. This 6-month contract role reports to the Director of Information Systems in Calgary or Sherwood Park.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
- 8+ years of progressive IT infrastructure experience
- 6+ years of enterprise Azure administration or architecture experience
- Experience supporting hybrid cloud and on-premises environments
- Experience implementing enterprise cloud security controls
- Experience administering Microsoft 365 services
- Experience with SAST, DAST, and penetration testing applications for Azure applications
- Microsoft Azure infrastructure and platform services
- Azure networking, compute, storage, backup, and disaster recovery services
- Microsoft Entra ID, identity and access management, Conditional Access, MFA, SSO, RBAC, and PIM
- Microsoft Defender Suite, Microsoft Sentinel, and Microsoft Purview
- Microsoft 365 administration, including Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Microsoft Teams, OneDrive, and Intune
- Infrastructure as Code, including Terraform, Bicep, and ARM templates
- PowerShell, Azure CLI, Azure DevOps, and CI/CD pipelines
- Virtualization technologies such as VMware and Hyper-V
- Enterprise networking, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN, routing, firewalls, and load balancing
- Cloud governance, cost management, security monitoring, SIEM, vulnerability management, and Zero Trust architecture
- Storage, backup, and disaster recovery solutions
- Occasional travel to MEMS offices or project sites
- Extended hours or varying shifts during critical project milestones
