Job Summary
The Senior Civil Engineer for ngGONG plays a central role in the design and implementation of ground-based solar observatory networks, ensuring comprehensive civil and architectural design requirements are met across multiple international sites. Responsibilities include leading design requirements documentation, developing site concepts through trade studies, coordinating with various engineering teams, serving as the primary internal contact for architectural and engineering contracts, ensuring compliance with regulatory codes, and managing permitting processes. Candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering and a minimum of 10 years in civil or structural engineering, along with the ability to manage complex projects and communicate technical information effectively.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineer, Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field
- At least 10 years of progressively responsible experience in civil or structural engineering
- Demonstrated experience in civil design for facilities, infrastructure, or research/technical projects
- Working knowledge of site development, foundations, grading/drainage, and utility systems
- Experience coordinating with multidisciplinary engineering teams and external A&E consultants
- Familiarity with key building and civil codes and standards
- Ability to produce and review engineering drawings and technical documentation
- Strong organizational and communication skills
Desired Qualifications
- Professional Engineer (PE) license
- Experience with observatory, laboratory, or other complex scientific or technical facilities
- Experience working on projects funded by federal agencies (such as NSF or NASA)
- Prior responsibility for leading A&E contracts
- Experience supporting projects through conceptual and preliminary design reviews
