Job Summary
Provide engineering support for Priority Projects, Priority Works, and Reactive teams by investigating, developing, and specifying cost-effective construction solutions. Design and specify engineering solutions for maintenance, repair, and renewal works, acting as Principal Designer where required under CDM 2015. Coordinate with external professional services to develop design options and serve as technical advisors to internal construction functions, agreeing on standards and specifications. Contribute to the development of Design Guidance, Standards, and Specifications while actively participating in "Stand-by" and "Call-out" rotas as needed. This remote role requires occasional attendance at regional hubs in Leeds, Burnley, Ellesmere Port, and Birmingham, with travel across the waterway network for site visits. The position offers a salary of £44,750–£50,750, includes a car cash allowance, and requires a valid UK driving licence.
Required Qualifications
- Qualified Civil Engineer (degree/HND)
- Incorporated or Chartered Engineer (IEng/CEng/MICE)
- Experience in civil engineering design and construction
- Experience designing Temporary Works solutions
- Professional qualification in a relevant technical discipline
- Knowledge and understanding of historic infrastructure, preferably in the water environment
- Demonstrable experience in cross-functional working delivering performance across range of functions
- Able to negotiate with internal and external contacts
- Able to provide a good standard of written communication and proven ability to present technical data to technical and non-technical audiences
- Continuous Professional Development
- Proficient in the use of business software e.g. MS Office
- Experience of using GIS or mapping systems
- Good understanding of the UK's construction industry Health and Safety requirements
- Confirmation of right to work in the UK (without sponsorship)
- Valid driving licence and access to a vehicle
- Membership of relevant professional body at an appropriate level e.g. MICE
- Must be able to travel throughout the regional waterway network
- Must be available for site visits and meetings
- Must be able to attend main hub spaces as and when required for team working and collaborative meetings
- Must be able to work Monday to Friday
- Must be able to work 37 hours
- Must be able to engage and brief Principal Engineers, relevant stakeholders and offer specialists advice
- Must be able to contribute to the development and implementation of Design Guidance, Standards and Specifications
- Must be able to coordinate with the Trust's external Professional Services suppliers
- Must be able to actively participate in the Trust's 'Stand-by' and 'Call-out' rotas
- Must be able to display the Trust values and behaviours at all times
- Must be able to ensure diversity and inclusion are integrated into all aspects of Trust life
- Must be able to challenge behaviour, practices, actions, or decisions that are counter to the objectives of the Trust's policies and values
