Job Summary

Senior Chemical Engineer at KFI Engineers (Industrial, Process & Agribusiness) leads technical execution of capital projects and supports business development through proposals and client meetings. Responsibilities include actively managing projects, applying science-based principles to process designs, developing PFDs, material/energy balances, simulations (ChemCAD), generating P&IDs, preparing equipment specifications, supporting FEED/FEL, providing field-startup insight, directing instrumentation selection and controls programming, mentoring junior staff, and contributing to proposals and customer engagements. Travel up to 20% domestically; collaborate with multi-location project teams and coordinate with procurement, other departments, and external subcontractors. Requires a Bachelor’s in Chemical Engineering with 15+ years of experience and demonstrated leadership in chemical processing projects; strong communication, planning, and analytical skills; proficient in Microsoft Office; and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering
  • Minimum of 15+ years of experience in chemical processing projects and facilities (e.g., specialty chemicals, resins, plastics, polymers, oleochemicals, inorganic chemicals, or biotechnology)
  • Project management skills and knowledge of related tools and processes
  • Current experience as the technical lead
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with strong interpersonal and collaboration skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and high workloads in a fast-paced environment
  • Travel up to 20% domestic
  • Proven ability to synthesize ideas into actionable recommendations and influence outcomes
  • Strong planning, analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams)
  • Ability to lead and direct project teams, including subcontractors
  • Experience in developing PFDs, material/energy balances, simulations (ChemCAD), and process engineering calculations
  • Experience with P&ID development and review, equipment specifications, and supporting procurement
  • Experience supporting FEED/FEL project development
  • Mentoring of junior staff and cross-department collaboration
  • Ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels
  • Understanding of field construction/start-up activities and related safety considerations
  • Experience with process instrumentation selection and controls programming
  • Preferred: Professional Engineering Registration or willingness to pursue; experience in PSM & PHA
