Senior Cell Development Engineer

Job Summary
Conduct day-to-day cell development programmes by designing and executing Design of Experiments (DOEs) to support cell improvement and new cell design objectives. Process, analyse, and interpret experimental data to identify trends, opportunities, and problems, then generate clear technical reports and recommendations for cell builds and application-based testing. Contribute to cell technology development, problem solving, and optimisation for emerging applications while collaborating with scientists, engineers, and technicians to assess technology options against application requirements. Maintain laboratory equipment and ensure the lab remains operationally ready, safe, clean, and organised. Identify and escalate abnormalities relating to cells, materials, equipment, and processes. Work closely with the Director, Cell Technology and wider technical team to translate experimental results into actionable next steps and deliver programme requirements and project deadlines.
Required Qualifications
- MS in Materials Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or a related discipline, plus 3–5 years' battery industry experience
- PhD in a relevant discipline, plus 2+ years' battery industry experience
- Strong practical experience in battery cell development and testing
- Strong analytical skills
- Excellent attention to detail
- The ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Strong organisation and time-management skills
- A practical, problem-solving mindset
- Curiosity to understand what the data is really telling you
- An appetite for working hands-on with batteries, battery materials and electro-chemical testing equipment
Desired Qualifications
- Leading or mentoring a small team of engineers and/or technicians
- Translating battery technology options into application requirements
- Working in a glovebox
- Working in a dry room
- Battery testing systems and associated electronics
- JMP or other statistical/data analysis software
