Senior CEI Inspector

Job Summary

Conduct independent complex inspections and supervise lower-level inspectors performing routine to moderately complex inspections of roadway and structure construction processes and materials to ensure compliance with construction contracts. Perform contract administration duties including field measurements of pay items and completion of Department-required documentation, while verifying invoiced work for satisfactory completion and managing project funding allocations. Participate in Concept Meetings, Field Plan Reviews, CPM schedule reviews, and project close-out activities, ensuring local municipalities remain in compliance with LAP processes. May perform project engineering duties on smaller construction projects with let amounts under $10 million and administer inspection and management of local let projects once assigned to Construction. Work onsite in a 16-mile corridor north of Atlanta, supporting engineers in functional areas of structure and roadway construction inspection.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 4+ years of progressive transportation technician experience as an employee or consultant for a State Highway Agency, or an equivalent combination of training and directly related experience
  • Thorough knowledge of materials, methods, and equipment used in highway construction
  • Considerable knowledge of mathematical functions, including algebra, geometry, and trigonometry related to highway and transportation engineering
  • Skill in the use of office equipment such as calculators and computers
  • Ability to read, interpret, and explain construction plans, contract provisions, specifications, and inspection procedures
  • Ability to take notes and prepare or review reports
  • Ability to supervise and coordinate the activities of lower-level employees
  • Must be licensed to operate motor vehicles in accordance with Georgia Law
  • Proficiency with computers (e.g., Microsoft Office 365, Microsoft Outlook, internet, etc.)
  • GDOT WECS
  • GDOT Field Concrete Technician Certification
  • GSWCC Level 1a (Erosion Control)
  • Passing scores on GDOT's Construction Engineering Inspection Training tests – Group 3 (Earthwork, Bridges, Incidental Items)
