Job Summary
Senior Business Development Underwriter responsibilities include establishing collaborative relationships with agencies and producers to understand external marketplace and underwrites within performance standards, evaluating complex business for risk acceptability, matching price to exposure, loss frequency/severity, and applying rating plans/modifications for renewal and retention. The role drives a profitable book of business, manages producer relationships, leads marketing and underwriting efforts, and travels 40-50% to meet clients. Location focus is Chicagoland with preference for western/southern suburbs (e.g., Naperville, Joliet) and periodic travel to Central Illinois. This field/remote position supports growth through producer management, pricing strategy, and underwriting authority. The environment is an Illinois remote/field role with a base salary range of $104,125.20 - $175,599.98.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Economics, or related field or equivalent experience
- Minimum 5 years of underwriting experience, 7 years preferred
- Current driver’s license (if travel required)
- Demonstrated success in servicing clients and building relationships with production sources
- Ability to lead special projects and mentor/train staff
- Strong communication and presentation skills
- Ability to read and interpret submissions and policy forms
