Job Summary
Conduct field inspections of industrial, commercial, and residential buildings across all construction phases to ensure compliance with state and local codes. Evaluate and resolve difficult enforcement or public relations issues as directed by the Building Official. Supervise construction inspectors, assign tasks, and train staff on proper inspection procedures and code interpretation. Investigate complaints, detect deviations from plans, and confer with contractors to resolve violations. Provide plan checking services for minor projects and handle multiple tasks simultaneously while maintaining accuracy. Requires valid Class "C" driver's license, ability to travel to job sites, and capacity for physical exertion in varying weather conditions. Occasional overtime may be required.
Required Qualifications
- Possess an International Code Council (ICC) Certification as a Combination Building Inspector – Residential and Commercial
- Possession and maintenance of a valid Class “C” California driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record
- Must be able to travel to client sites and/or job sites
- Require extensive physical exertion during on-site inspections
- Require physical flexibility & dexterity, including the ability to continually stand, bend, stoop, reach, crouch and climb
- May require lifting up to 35 pounds
- Require the capacity to work in a fast-paced environment with deadlines and multiple projects
- Occasional overtime work may be required throughout the year
- Possess a high school diploma or GED
Desired Qualifications
- Possess an International Code Council (ICC) Certification as a Residential Plans Examiner or ICC Commercial Building Examiner
- 10+ years of experience in Building Inspection with a private or public agency
- 5+ years of experience as a Building Inspector II or equivalent
- Excellent verbal and written skills
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and Outlook)
