Job Summary

Evaluate BOP and small commercial submissions across diverse industries by analyzing applications, loss runs, and financial documentation to assess property, liability, cyber, and catastrophe exposures. Develop appropriate pricing, premiums, and deductibles while balancing growth and profitability through sound underwriting judgment. Manage a profitable book of business by monitoring loss ratios, conducting renewal reviews, and identifying opportunities for account expansion. Negotiate terms and conditions with independent agents and brokers to strengthen relationships and improve submission quality. Mentor junior underwriting professionals and contribute to underwriting strategy, product development, and process improvement initiatives.

Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years of commercial lines underwriting experience
  • 7+ years of hands-on BOP underwriting experience
  • Proven experience managing a profitable commercial book of business
  • Strong background in small commercial insurance and/or middle-market risks
  • Experience working directly with independent agents and wholesale brokers
  • Strong knowledge of commercial property and liability coverages
  • Excellent risk selection and underwriting judgment
  • Strong analytical and financial assessment skills
  • Ability to independently make and defend underwriting decisions
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and relationship-management skills
  • Experience with Business Owners Policies (BOP)
  • Experience with Commercial General Liability (CGL)
  • Experience with Commercial Property
  • Experience with Business Income & Extra Expense
  • Experience with Equipment Breakdown
  • Experience with Cyber Liability
  • Experience with Crime Coverage
  • Experience with Inland Marine
  • Experience with EPLI
  • Experience with Hired & Non-Owned Auto
  • Experience with Umbrella / Excess Liability
  • Experience with ISO forms and rating methodologies
  • Experience with Commercial underwriting and policy administration systems
  • Experience with Risk modeling and predictive analytics
  • Experience with Microsoft Excel and other analytical tools

Desired Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Insurance, Risk Management, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field
  • CPCU, AU, CIC, ARM, or another relevant insurance designation
  • Experience with portfolio optimization, book roll analysis, and renewal strategies
  • Experience mentoring junior underwriting professionals
  • Experience working in a technology-enabled, digital, or data-driven insurance environment
