Senior Backend Java Developer - Remote - Contract - U.S. Candidates Only

Job Summary
Design, develop, and test backend applications and services using Java, Node.js, and PostgreSQL while deploying and maintaining cloud infrastructure on Microsoft Azure. Partner directly with clients to gather requirements, provide technical recommendations, and communicate progress, alongside working with engineers to design software architecture including APIs and microservices. Write unit tests following test-driven development practices, translate business requirements into technical specifications, and optimize application performance, scalability, and security. Debug and troubleshoot software issues across the stack in live environments while managing client expectations on multiple concurrent projects. This long-term contract engagement offers $70 per hour for U.S. candidates in Eastern or Central time zones, with potential for full-time conversion.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field
- 5+ years of experience as a software engineer, with direct client-facing experience required
- Strong programming skills in Java and Node.js
- Experience with PostgreSQL and relational database design
- Experience with Microsoft Azure (App Services, Azure Functions, Azure SQL/Storage, or similar)
- Experience with RESTful API design and development
- Experience with Git and other version control systems
- Excellent problem-solving and debugging skills
- Excellent client management, communication, and teamwork skills — comfortable presenting technical decisions to non-technical stakeholders
- Understanding of modern DevOps principles
- Remote, but USA-based, Eastern or Central Standard Time Zone

Desired Qualifications
- Experience with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes)
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines
- Familiarity with messaging/event systems (Kafka, RabbitMQ, or Azure Service Bus)
