Job Summary
Design and develop distributed microservices using Java, Spring Boot, and Kafka to power core banking systems, merchant acquiring platforms, and internal applications. Lead architectural decisions for relational and non-relational databases, containerized applications with Docker and Kubernetes, and robust REST APIs. Achieve meaningful test coverage, manage CI/CD pipelines, and conduct peer code reviews while leveraging AI coding tools to validate generated output. Mentor junior engineers and collaborate across product, QA, and frontend teams to deliver features end-to-end. Produce technical documentation and contribute to architecture decision records. Required Qualifications
- Malaysian citizen (holder of a valid MyKad)
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related field
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on backend software development experience
- Strong proficiency in Java and object-oriented programming (OOP) principles
- Solid experience with Spring Boot for building microservices and RESTful APIs
- Solid understanding of messaging systems, particularly Kafka or equivalent event streaming platforms
- Hands-on experience with both relational databases (PostgreSQL) and non-relational databases
- Experience designing and consuming web APIs of reasonable complexity, including versioning and backward compatibility
- Hands-on experience with containerised applications using Docker and Kubernetes
- Productive user of at least one AI coding tool (e.g. ILMU, Claude, GitHub Copilot); applies engineering judgement to validate AI-generated output
- Solid understanding of software security principles and performance optimisation for high-load backend services
- Good communication and interpersonal skills for effective cross-functional collaboration within Enterprise Engineering
Desired Qualifications
- Familiarity with other OOP languages is an advantage
- Familiarity with digital banking, core banking systems, or financial technology applications is an advantage
