Senior Backend Engineer, Ecosystems

Job Summary
Lead backend development for Ecosystem Services, owning server-side logic, deployment, and production health for platforms powering Firefox, VPN, Relay, and AutoPush. Deploy and operate services end-to-end on Google Cloud Platform, maintaining environments with Docker pipelines and monitoring via OpenTelemetry, Sentry, Prometheus, and Grafana. Participate in on-call rotations to triage production incidents, handle releases, and address dependency updates while collaborating with frontend teams, CloudEng, and UX partners. Apply AI-assisted development tools to accelerate quality, conduct security and privacy reviews, and mentor junior engineers to drive technical excellence across distributed systems.
Required Qualifications
- 4+ years of experience in software development with a strong focus on backend technologies
- Strong professional experience with Python, TypeScript/Node.js, or Rust building back-end services and confidence leading back-end engineering projects
- Proficiency with PostgreSQL and SQL query optimization, including relational schema design and migrations with a query builder such as Knex
- Hands-on DevOps experience on Google Cloud Platform (GCP), with Docker-based build and deploy pipelines
- Hands-on experience with observability and monitoring tooling such as Sentry and Grafana

- Experience mentoring junior engineers and driving technical excellence in code quality, testing, and process improvements
